From previous, everyone had made friendly with the dragon Jabindakuul. He granted Jax an amulet so he could talk to him directly. To each of the others he gave a magical item:
- A level-6 Wand of Silence - 50 charges
- A level-6 Wand of Charm Person - 50 charges
- Gloves of Dexerity + 2
- Scale Mail + 2
The dragon cast a spell to completely refresh them, both in magic and health. Afterwards, the party went out into the Grotto of the Guardians, where Meril found them. He offered to them anywhere to stay and invited them to go into the cellar, where they would find barrels of mead and ale. Jax immediately began his celebration and Rose joined him. They laughed and talked until Jax wondered why Rose had become quiet. "So, that mirror... we should go check that out!" he said. This launched them into a different kind of conversation as they made their way out the door and up the winding ramp that led up to the Chieftains' room.
Kutaku left to go speak to Jabindakuul, asking how he could get out into the sea. Jabindakuul told him that he would have to go out through the Mourner's Gate, on the other side of the Grotto of the Guardians. He left for the great waters of the Bay of Londfolas, Woofie transforming his seawolf body into an orca and reveling in the freedom only the ocean can give. As they swam, they could feel the pressure of water rushing around them as if something very large approached. Soon, they saw it: an enormous black dragon was swimming straight toward them. Kutaku guided Woofie to dive deeper, looking up to see the outline of the massive dragon. The dragon changed direction, diving down to where Kutaku drifted. "You know Jabindakuul - I can smell it on you! Tell him I send my greetings."
